So I've watched 3 episodes of SAO II on Toonami so far, having DVR'd them. I'm afraid I'm just not buying the specifics of Sinon/Shino Asada's PTSD phobias. She freaks out in real life even if someone makes the fingers of their hand into a gun shape and points it at her, but yet she runs around a highly immersive, hyper-realistic digital world having guns not only pointed but fired at her and she shrugs it off. That's nearly psychotic levels of dissociation. Like she must feel as if she and Sinon, her online persona, are two separate persons. It strains credulity. GGO might very well serve as aversion therapy for Shino Asada, but you'd imagine she'd have made more progress in the real world if she's truly as battle hardened as we first see her in the digital world.
I get the tragic backstory, and yes, that would traumatize anyone, especially one so young...and it seems to have driven a wedge between Shino Asada and her own mother, despite her actions having saved her mother's life.
Interested to see where it goes, and I do find SAO II just as entertaining as SAO, but neither series is free from problems. And the dub on Toonami, until I looked it up, I thought they were calling Shino Asada another "Asuna", i.e. I was mishearing the surname Asada as the first name Asuna.
