My "inner otaku" simultaneously loves and hates this music video.
I mean, the visuals are GREAT, playful, very "Anime"...and I wouldn't mind the presence of the "Loli" girl as a character, but why for the love of GAWD did you make her the FOCUS of it?
It just makes it CREEPY and confirms EVERY WRONGHEADED STEREOTYPE about Anime that we don't need right now or ever. And THAT I f*cking hate.
No, Pharrell Williams isn't a pedophile---go fuck off if you're tempted to hurl this accusation. But yes, the video comes off as fucking creepy and it could've so easily been otherwise.
And perhaps I ought not be so surprised, it's not as if there's not a history of Pharell Williams and problematic videos dealing with women (*cough* Blurred Lines *cough*)...
I do like this video, but hate what it will do for the perception of Anime/Manga culture. Parts of it are really nice, but inserting himself into the video chasing after the Loli just...ugh...NOPE.
